SCOTT (ROBERT FALCON) Autograph letter signed ('R. Scott'), to 'Dear Sir & Brother', happily accepting his '...kind invitation to become an Honorary Member of the 'Liverpool Castle' Lodge...' and expressing his '...appreciation of the honour which this invitation confers...', one page, dust-staining and smudges, small loss to upper left corner repaired, remains of glue and paper on reverse where affixed to album, oblong 8vo (175 x 226mm.), Buckingham Palace Road, S.W., 12 June [19]10; with a contemporary photographic postcard depicting Ponting's image of 'Captain Scott's South Pole Expedition/ The Southern Party 1911', published by The Fine Art Society, reverse blank (2) Footnotes: SCOTT AGREES TO JOIN THE LIVERPOOL CASTLE MASONIC LODGE PRIOR TO LEAVING FOR HIS LAST EXPEDITION. Three days after this letter was written, the Terra Nova sailed from Cardiff on the British Antarctic Expedition. Scott was to join the ship later at Cape Town, never to return. He had been initiated into several masonic lodges '...including his home lodge of Drury Lane Lodge No. 2127, London, which he joined in 1901. He was also a member of St. Alban's Lodge No. 2597, Christ Church, New Zealand, and Navy Lodge No. 2613, of England...' (www.masonrytoday.com), and fellow masons on his Antarctic expeditions included Charles Royds and Ernest Shackleton. Liverpool Castle Lodge was named in 1909 and met at several locations in the city including the Adelphi Hotel, but all records held by the Lodge were destroyed by fire during the war in 1941. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
