A CASED PAIR OF ENGLISH ENGRAVED AND SILVER WIRE INLAID PERCUSSION POCKET PISTOLS, by Thomas Tipping, Birmingham, 1820-35. 3 1/2 in., .44 caliber octagonal Damascus barrels marked 'T.TIPPING' on the top, foliate scroll engraved brass box lock frames with blued hammers, half cock safety catches and folding triggers, walnut stocks with elaborate scrolling silver wire and leafy silver inlays, and silver lion's head butt caps; housed in a mahogany case with brass plate on the lid, opening to a compartmented red velvet lined interior with single cavity shot mold, embossed copper powder flask, barrel/nipple wrench and second nipple wrench. Overall lg. 7 1/2 in. Condition: Pistol barrels are bright with subtle Damascus texturing, brass is toned to deep yellow, hammers retain approx. 95% bluing, silver wire inlay is secure but one small leaf is missing, actions function properly; case has minor blemishes on the exterior, lining is faded and has some stains, accessories are good but the barrel/nipple wrench is cracked.
