A BRASS BARREL FLINTLOCK COACHING BLUNDERBUSS, by Richard Wilson, London, third quarter of the 18th century. 16 1/4 in. barrel with flaring muzzle and ring decorated breech, the top of the barrel engraved 'MRS. LEE/MINORIES LONDON/TOTTERIDGE PARK' and the left side marked with London Company of Gunmakers proof marks; convex lock plate with double line border engraving, the pointed tail engraved with foliate decoration, the area below the pan engraved 'WILSON'; walnut stock with relief carved shell plateau around the breech plug tang; brass furniture including a butt plate with stepped and pointed tang, baluster thumb piece, trigger guard with foliate finial, flat side plate with engraved shell decoration and pointed tail, sheet brass rammer and entry pipe, wood rammer with brass tip., Overall lg. 32 1/2 in. Condition: Brass toned to deep yellow/brown, lock toned to mottled gray, stock has a small area of wood loss on the right side at the muzzle and scattered dings and dents, action functions properly. Footnotes: Note Totteridge Park is a manor house located north of London whose construction began in the 17th century. In 1748 the house was purchased by Sir William Lee (1726-1778), Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench. Sir William Lee married Philadelphia Dyke (born prior to 1730) in 1757. Mrs. Lee lived at Totteridge Park until her death in 1799 and is likely the 'Mrs. Lee' inscribed on the barrel of this blunderbuss.
