A DUBLIN CASTLE FLINTLOCK CAVALRY CARBINE, last quarter of the 18th century. 16 in., .69 caliber round barrel with ring decoration at the breech and the top marked with Tower-style ordnance proof marks and stamped 'CW-863; flat lock plate with pointed tail engraved 'DUBLIN/CASTLE' and with a crown over 'GR' and crowned broad arrow mark below the pan; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang, the left side of the butt with carved initials 'WT'; brass furniture including a butt plate with pointed tang and engraved initials 'WT,' trigger guard with acorn finial, flat side plate with pointed tail, single rammer pipe, and nose cap; sling bar and ring on the left side, swivel rammer with large disk top. Overall lg. 31 5/8 in. Condition: Barrel toned to mottled brown with light pitting at the vent area, lock toned to gray, stock has scattered worm holes although the wood is sound, an area of wood fill on the left side of the butt, a small loss above the lock, and scattered dings and dents, brass is toned to yellow, action functions properly.
