A COLT PRESENTATION LONDON MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER, 1853-56. Serial number 10507, .31 octagonal barrel with two-line address reading 'ADDRESS COL. COLT/LONDON'; the frame marked 'COLTS/PATENT' and the cylinder with worn stagecoach scene, patent and serial number markings, walnut grip; grip frame engraved on butt 'Presented to Jos. Dunn/Co A. C.L.A./Alonzo Lacy May 18 /61' and on the back 'By the City of Cleveland'; all serial numbers match including the wedge; no British proof markings on the revolver. Barrel lg. 6, overall lg. 11 in. Condition: Revolver is toned to mottled gray brown overall, cylinder has area of light to moderate pitting and areas of the scene are obliterated, frame has areas of light pitting on the left side, a trace of case coloring is present at the rear of the loading lever, action needs attention. Footnotes: Note Joseph Dunn was born in England in 1821 but later settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where on April 21, 1861, he enlisted as a private in Company A of the 1st Regiment of Ohio Artillery Volunteer Militia serving three months until his discharge on July 27. He died in Cleveland, April 18, 1907. Late production London 1849 Pocket revolvers lacking the usual British proof marks are among the rarest varieties of London-make Colt pocket revolvers.
