A SMALL ENGLISH BRASS BARREL FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS OR MUSKETOON, by John Bennett II, London, late 18th century. 10 1/4 in. brass barrel with flaring cannon muzzle, the top of the breech engraved 'BENNETT, ROYAL-EXCHANGE, LONDON' and marked on the left side with London Company of Gunmakers proof marks and barrel maker's mark 'I.B' within a sunken rectangular cartouche; flat lock plate with stepped tail, engraved below the pan 'BENNETT' within an oval; walnut stock with relief carved shell around the breech plug tang, brass furniture including a butt plate with long pointed tang, oval thumb piece, trigger guard with acorn finial, flat side plate with pointed tail, sheet brass rammer and entry pipes, wood rammer with iron jag ferule. Overall lg. 25 5/8 in. Condition: Brass toned to yellow, lock toned to gray/brown, stock dings and dents particularly on the underside of the butt, action functions properly.
