A 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's Undress Sword Retailed By R. Johnson, Late Bland & Foster, Sword Cutler & Belt Maker To His Majesty, St. James's Str.t, London, Circa 1800 With tapering double-edged blade etched with designs of foliage within the central fuller over most of its length along each side, one side at the forte with pre-1801 royal arms and motto above a martial trophy, and on the other with crowned 'GRIII' cypher above a further martial trophy, regulation ormolu hilt retaining most of its gilding and comprising boat-shell guard, knuckle-guard of ovoidal section screwed to the globular pommel with button, and grip bound with twisted silver wire, in original black leather scabbard (loss of surface finish) with linear engraved ormolu mounts (loss of gilding) and two rings for suspension, the locket with frog button and engraved with retailer's details in an oval on one side 82.5 cm. blade Footnotes: For information regarding R. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
