An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword By R. Johnston Late Bland & Foster, Sword Cutler & Beltmaker To His Majesty, 68 St. James's St., London, Circa 1800 With curved fullered blade (old pitting and some surface rust) double-edged towards the point, the forte over both sides etched and gilt against a blued ground with a dragon, a martial trophy and foliage (gilding and blueing worn), the back etched 'SOLINGEN', regulation ormolu hilt comprising oval guard pierced with scrolls, knuckle-guard with pierced crowned cypher at the base, lion-head pommel and faceted back-piece, fishskin-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire, and retaining some original gilding, in original black leather scabbard (worn and incomplete, chape missing) with linear engraved ormolu locket engraved with maker's details with a roped border on one side, and with ring for suspension and foliate frog-button; together with a field service scabbard covered in brown pigskin (worn)(2) The first 77.5 cm. blade Footnotes: For information regarding R.
