A Jack Benny Cigarette Box Gifted by Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow An American sterling silver cigarette box, mark of Poole Silversmiths, Mass., engraved on the lid, 'NOEL, Frank & Mia, '66.' In the early 1950s when Frank Sinatra was having vocal cord problems, could not get work, and was considered box office poison, he was a witness to the fickleness of show business. Having once captivated bobby soxers with his crooning and audiences with his MGM musicals, his decline was devastating, pushing him to a suicide attempt. His entourage had dissipated, but one friend stayed true – Jack Benny. Benny was instrumental in keeping up Sinatra's spirits by inviting him to appear on his radio program, sharing hours of airtime with his friend to keep him in the public eye. Their friendship never wavered and continued until Benny's death in 1974; Sinatra was with Benny in his last days and was a pallbearer at his funeral. The cigarette box was gifted to Benny by Frank and his then-wife, actress Mia Farrow. Provenance: The Estate of Jack Benny. 4 x 3.5 x 1.75 in.
