A Jack Benny Personal Silver Tiffany Box, a Gift from his Show's Sponsor Tiffany & Co. 14K gold presentation box, engraved on the inside lid, 'To my good friends Mary and Jack, with every good wish, Mr. Lucky Strike, January 1, 1945.' The Jack Benny Program aired on radio and television from 1932 to 1965. Benny's schtick portrayed him as a performer with an overinflated ego and a tendency towards stinginess. The real Benny was a far cry from that caricature and was considered by his peers to be the nicest man in show business. In 1944, cigarette manufacturer Lucky Strike took over as the show's sponsor, and the show became known as The Lucky Strike Program Starring Jack Benny until 1959. George Washington Hill, President of American Tobacco Co., was commonly known as 'Mister Lucky Strike,' and is most likely who gifted this Tiffany box to the Bennys.
