Rita Hayworth correspondence with Charlie Feldman Comprising 2 Autograph Postcards Signed ('R.H.,' 'Me'), April 1952, Mexico; 1 Autograph Postcard Signed ('La Princesse'), 1952, Spain; and a Western Union Telegram, September 1952, France; all to Charles Feldman, Rita Hayworth's agent and friend. Together with 4 carbons of telegram content sent to Hayworth from Feldman dated October 1951 to October 1952; 3 gelatin silver photographs of Hayworth comprising 2 portraits (1953 and 1955) and 1 candid (1942); and a thank you note for an expression of sympathy stamped 'Received / July 15, 1952.' During the time that Rita Hayworth was separated from her husband, Prince Aly Khan, whom she married in 1949 at the peak of her career and separated from in 1951, she counted on the friendship and advice of her agent, Charles Feldman. After establishing residency in Reno in 1951 to pursue divorce, Hayworth spent time in 1952 in Mexico and Spain at various bullfights and with various men. The sense of freedom she felt after leaving the prince is palpable in her message to Feldman from Spain: 'Have been living in exile in Spain for the last few weeks! And have enjoyed every minute of it.' Poking fun at her previous moniker as Princess Margarita Aly Khan, she signs the message, 'La Princesse.' Alternatively, her telegram to Feldman in September of 1952 from France in which she was attempting a reconciliation with Aly reads less enthusiastic, 'Happy to be here. / Love / Me.' The reconciliation failed and their divorce became final in 1953. In Feldman's carbon telegrams to Hayworth, he makes sure to send her flowers on her birthday and spends quite a bit of money on what seems to be a message dissuading Hayworth from a possible suitor! Regardless, their friendship seems quite real in that Hayworth did not often sign her postcards in such an affectionate manner. Largest: 8 x 10 in.
