Pair of Armorial Porcelain Soup Plates with the Arms of Renny, Jingdezhen, China, c. 1770. Each with splayed rim, the marly painted with sprays of lotus, peony, chrysanthemum, and fruit blossoms in famille rose enamels, framed by gilded spearhead border conforming to notched octagonal edge and circular cavetto, which surrounds a deep well enamel-painted to depict an asymmetrical rococo shield bearing the arms of RENNY, Argent an oak tree out a mount vert in base, on a chief [gules] a pair of wings conjoined ermine, surmounted by the crest, A dexter hand fessways couped, suspending a pair of scales, and above banner and cartouche inscribed 'Probitate consilium perficitur' (My design is perfected by honesty) in black enamel, diam. 8 3/4, ht. 1 1/2 in.
