Five Armorial Ceramic Table Items, China and England, late 18th century. Assembled group includes: 1. One porcelain teacup with interior edged in fine green enamel dogtooth border, the exterior surrounded with bamboo and flower border, the frontispiece opposite bead-molded handle inscribed with flowered initials 'TK' below a couped and azure-collared ostrich head crest, possibly for the KING family of Devonshire or Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, wd. 3 1/4, dp. 2 1/4, ht. 2 1/2 in. 2. One porcelain teabowl with interior spangled blue-enamel band border over gold and pink scrolled diaper trim festooned with floral swags, the exterior edged with trellis-patterned gold band above frontispiece depicting a blue belt inscribed with motto of READE, 'Pro virtute' (For virtue) below the crest, Out of a cloud a hand erect holding a book expanded proper, the reserve containing gilded initials 'WMC', and vestiges of a gilt inscription on opposite wall, diam. 3 1/2, ht. 1 7/8 in. 3. One porcelain bowl raised on a short foot, the interior edged with blue and gold enameled band and spearhead border, and the exterior painted on two sides to depict a mantled and ribboned shield inscribed with the initials 'WMP' in gold, beneath a fine chain and dot border, diam. 5 5/8, ht. 2 1/2 in. 4. One creamware teacup with extruded and sprig-molded handle, transfer-printed and cobalt-painted with trellis-patterned band and spearhead border pattern, the frontispiece enamel-painted with shield containing the initials 'JF' above banner inscribed 'Fide et fortitudine' (Fidelity and strength), crested by, A demi lion rampant [or] grasping a sword, for James FARQUHARSON (d. 1843) of Essex, England, Captain of the East India Company ship Alfred from 1791-1801, wd. 3 1/8, dp. 2 3/8, ht. 2 1/2 in. 5. One earthenware saucer matching above cup, the border printed and glazed inside rim to surround the armorials enamel-painted in center of well, diam. 5 1/4, ht. 1 1/4 in.
