The concave rim enamel-painted in sepia, red, and gold to depict grapevine border broken at the top to center the crest of MACDONALD, An arm in armor in fess holding a cross crosslet fitched gules, and draped with a purple banner inscribed 'Nec tempore nec fato' (Neither time nor fate), the shallow well centering two oval shields accollée, one surmounted by helmet crest and bearing the MacDonald arms, quartered 1. Argent a lion rampant gules; 2. Or a dexter arm in armor couped fesswise holding a cross crosslet fitched gules; 3. Or a galley her sails furled sable and oars in action, flagged gules; 4. Vert a salmon naient in fess; the other shield possibly indicating the arms of FORBES, Azure [Argent] three bears' heads couped or, arranged on a grassy knoll and leaning against a large fern or palm tree, all intertwined with purple banner inscribed, 'Per mare per terras' (By sea by land), another old MacDonald motto, diam. 9 3/4, ht. 1 in.
