Armorial Porcelain Plate with the Arms of Lovelace, Jingdezhen, China, c. 1755. Scalloped edge to rim enamel-painted with colorful sprays of lotus, peony, and plum blossom, outside a gilded spearhead border surrounding the cavetto, which encircles a shallow well centering a shield intending to bear arms of LOVELACE, Gules on a chief indented [plain] or three martlets sable, or LOVELACE of Hurley and Canterbury, Gules on a chief indented sable three martlets argent, whose crest should be, On a staff raguly an eagle displayed argent, but here displayed, An eagle's [or griffin's] head gules ducally gorged, all surrounded by gilt and enamel rococo scrolls interlaced with a palm frond and garland of peonies, diam. 9, ht. 7/8 in.
