A GROUP OF SIX MINIATURE LACQUER BOXES Meiji era (1868-1912) and Showa era (1926-1989), 19th and 20th century Comprising a pair of rectangular boxes decorated with a pine or willow tree in gold takamaki-e, kinpun, and kirikane, the sides kinji and the interior and base nashiji; Three contemporary boxes decorated with blossoming flowers and butterflies in gold and red togidashi maki-e and inlaid crushed eggshell on a roiro-nuri ground, the interiors and undersides nashiji, each signed and sealed Sadae (Sadae Yamamoto Walters, born 1929); A rectangular box decorated with a pair of cranes in gold, red, and black hiramaki-e against a ground of inlaid crushed eggshell, the interior red lacquer 2 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 3/4in (5.7 x 5.7 x 1.9cm), the largest (6).
