A GROUP OF FIVE LACQUER KŌGŌ (INCENSE CONTAINERS) Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th/20th century Comprising a rectangular box with an inrōbuta (flush-fitting) lid decorated with chrysanthemums and autumn grasses in gold and black togidashi maki-e and hirame on a gold and black ground dusted with kinpun, the interior and base nashiji, the rims silver; A circular box with a flat inrōbuta lid decorated with autumn grasses in gold togidashi maki-e against a black ground sprinkled with hirame and dusted around the edges with kinpun, the interior and base nashiji; A small rectangular box decorated with chrysanthemum blossoms in gold takamaki-e and nashiji against a kinji ground, the interior and base nashiji; A circular box with a domed cover decorated with Fujin, the God of Wind in gold and silver takamaki-e against a ground of black lacquer and hirame, the interior nashiji; A red-lacquer circular box with a domed cover deeply carved with plum blossoms 3 3/8in (8.6cm) diameter, the largest (5).
