A DRIED PERSIMMON BOX AND COVER AND A LACQUER BOX AND COVER Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, 20th century Comprising a circular box made from the skin of a dried persimmon decorated with insects and a snail in gold lacquer and inlaid shell, the carved wood cover decorated with a stag beetle in black takamaki-e; A lacquer box in the form of a temple drum decorated with scrolling vines and clouds in gold and silver takamaki-e and hiramaki-e against a brown and gold togidashi maki-e ground imitating wood grain, the drum heads with stylized Chinese dragons encircling a single plum blossom, the cylindrical inner sleeve decorated in nashiji 3 3/4in (9.5cm) diameter; 3 1/4in (8.2cm) high (2).
