Framed Needlepoint Sampler, Mary Ann Waterman Arnold (1821-44), Rhode Island, 1831. Large loosely plain-woven canvas worked in tapestry- and cross-stitch, the top margin filled with five registers of alphabets above an indented passage of biblical verse, a large hipped-roof house depicted in lower left corner, signed at the bottom, 'Wrought by Mary Ann Waterman aged / nine years 1831' and all surrounded with white and green border, mounted in glazed frame, sight, 16 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.
