1981 Mercedes-Benz 280 SLC Chassis no. WDB10702212010625 - Delivered new in Switzerland - Elegant colour combinations - Septembre 2024 expertise from Geneva state - Offered with Swiss registration document Built by Mercedes since 1954 across numerous generations, the SL - standing for 'Super Leicht' has proven to be a hit for Mercedes-Benz, being their second longest-running model after the ubiquitous G-Class. The R107 generation - as seen here - was introduced produced between 1971 and 1989, and was largely unchanged during this time, which is testament to just how good the original design and execution was. Available with a range of engines from a 2.8-litre inline-six (280SL) up to the monstrous 5.6-litre V8 in the 560SL, the R107 was based upon the W114 model architecture, and was available in either SL Roadster or SLC coupe' format. Interestingly, the 280, 380 and 500 SL models continued after the demise of the SLC in September 1981, with the 380 and 500 receiving a re-tune, promoting greater efficiency and gained updated axle ratios - 3.27:1 was raised to 2.47:1 for the 380 - with the 380SL eventually bowing out in September 1985. Specifically, the 280SL was powered by a 2.8-litre, naturally-aspirated inline-six engine, which was renowned for Mercedes' silky-smooth power delivery and whisper-quiet idle, so much so that it was easy to forget the engine was running when sat at traffic lights, making the SL an excellent urban car as well as a Grand Tourer. Delivered new in Switzerland, this car was finished in Astral Silver Metallic with a Blue Velour interior, built to Swiss specifications and equipped with an extensive list of desirable options: sliding roof, electrically operated; automatic transmission, 4-speed; cruise control (Tempomat); central locking mechanism; anti-lock braking system (ABS); right-side outside rear-view mirror; interference suppression without radio set; folding front armrest; 4-way electric window lifters; heat-insulating glass all around, heated rear window pane with band filter; headlamp wiper/washers; 15-hole light alloy rims. The car recently underwent a significant service at Bahman Cars, with an invoice exceeding CHF 15,000 included in the file. It is offered with its original cancelled Swiss carte grise (registration document) and an expertise from the Geneva state, conducted on 20 September 2024, when the car displayed 232,255 km, showing no faults. A set of spare keys is also included.
