1952 NSU 98cc Fox 4 Frame no. 1659738 Engine no. 844475 Please kindly note that this motorbike will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Dortmund: please contact eva.lengler@bonhams.com for booking. Having occupied itself with a variety of manufacturing and repair activities in the immediate aftermath of WW2, NSU returned to full-scale motorcycle production in 1948 with revived pre-war designs. Introduced in 1949, its first all-new product was the Albert Roder-designed Fox 4, which was powered by a 98cc overhead-valve single-cylinder engine and featured a pressed steel frame and Roder's patented leading-link fork. A couple of years later, essentially the same set of cycle parts was revamped for the Fox 2, a 123cc two-stroke, and both it and the original Fox 4 continued in production until superseded by the Superfox for 1955. Powered by a 123cc ohv engine, the Superfox looked very much like its larger Lux and Max brethren and was good for around 60mph flat-out. The Superfox and Lux were replaced by the 175cc Maxi in 1957. The Fox 4 offered here comes with German registration papers, sundry invoices and a reproduction repair manual. The engine turns over. Key not required Footnotes: Please kindly note that VAT at the prevailing german rate (currently 19%) will be added to the buyer's premium which will be invoiced on a VAT exclusive basis.
