c.1983 Zündapp K80S Frame no. 9472331 Engine no. 314 060 9981990 Founded at the height of WWI to manufacture armaments, Zündapp found a new role post-war as a producer of motorcycles under the direction of new owner, Dr Fritz Neumeyer, building its first machine, a Levis-powered two-stroke, in 1921. The firm began making its own engines in 1924, selling more than 10,000 machines that year, and in 1933 introduced the first of the horizontally opposed, four-stroke twins that it is best remembered for. Although the big four-strokes reappeared after WW2, frm the onwards Zündapp concentrated mainly on the production of two-stroke mopeds, scooters and lightweight motorcycles such as the K80S offered here, a model first seen in 1981, only a few years before the German firm's demise and sale to China in 1984. It should be noted that there are no documents with this Lot. The engine turns over. For Automobilia the Buyer's Premium is 28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price; 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,001 up to and including £800,000; 21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,001 up to and including £4,500,000 and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,001.
For Motor Cars and Vehicle Registration Numbers the Buyer's Premium will be 15% on the first £500,000 of the hammer price of each Lot, and 12% on the balance thereafter.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% + VAT of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
