Together with 30 photographs of the horses used in the film, 8 x 10 in.; one contact sheet, 8 x 10 in.; and 6 color transparencies, 4 x 5 in. Similar to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, their predecessors in Paramount Pictures' buddy comedies, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis became a screen team because of their natural banter and wit. Initially partnered as a stage act, they graduated to the silver screen in My Friend Irma in 1949 and appeared on film, radio, and television for 10 years before making headlines with a breakup. Lewis' slapstick monkey-like comedy paired with the calm and cool Martin was the key to the partnership; many thought Lewis would never survive in show business after the breakup. Lewis, however, began a new chapter in his career when he starred in and directed a slew of hit films in the 1960s. Martin, for his part, also continued a successful film and singing career. After two decades of not speaking to each other, the two were surprised by Frank Sinatra in 1976 with a televised reunion on Lewis' famous Muscular Dystrophy telethon, much to the delight of the public. 8 x 10 in. or smaller Footnotes: The collection of Paramount Pictures set stills that is being offered in this auction is an extraordinary historical archive from the late 1920s to the early 1970s. Sets stills were taken for continuity purposes and to document the arrangements of the sets and props, etc, during the making of a film. Not only does this collection photographically document the changes in filmmaking through the decades, it details the changing styles of architecture, interior design (the Art Deco sets from the 1930s are astonishingly beautiful), fashion, cars, and more. In the cases of location shooting, one can see the evolution of various southern California towns and landmarks, from the tony nightspots of Hollywood to the open spaces of Brentwood to the artistry of the Paramount Ranch. The photos give a unique behind-the-scenes look at the stars during filming; some vamp for the camera while others avoid it, some study their scripts or confer wit For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
