Beschreibung
A Double Indemnity Group of Set Stills Paramount Pictures, 1944. Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Edward G. Robinson. Director Billy Wilder. Approximately 140 silver gelatin photographs, 4 x 5 in., some with location descriptions handwritten in ink to border, some date stamped (Oct.-Nov. 1943) and some with 'Interior Decorating (36)' stamped to verso, 2 featuring director Billy Wilder and one featuring Fred MacMurray. Together with 35 larger photos, 8 x 10 in.; and 14 research photos, 6 x 9 in. Set stills include a location shot of the original home as well as the studio set version; the exterior and interior of the Dietrichson home (including that stairway where Stanwyck appears to MacMurray for the first time, in a towel and ankle bracelet!); Wallace Neff's office; the supermarket where they rendezvous; the insurance company lobby; Neff's apartment; and more. Please note that there may be some duplication of photographs. Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray had previously appeared together in a sweet and funny film, Remember the Night (1939), with great success, but no one was prepared for their performances in Double Indemnity, the quintessential film noir. Normally a comedic saxophone player, MacMurray initially balked when director Billy Wilder asked him to play the role. MacMurray didn't think the public would buy him as a heavy. He was wrong! Stanwyck had played tough women before but the part of Phyllis Dietrichson was pure evil. As often is the case when an actor plays against type, the public loved it. Stanwyck plays a femme fatale who seduces insurance man MacMurray into killing her husband for the insurance money, and MacMurray falls for her hook, line, and sinker (emphasis on the sinker). The gorgeous Spanish Revivial home used in the film still stands and looks just as it did in 1944. 4 x 5 in. to 8 x 10 in. Lot to be sold without reserve. Buyers' Premium and Charges
