VARGAS PONCE, JOSÉ DE. 1760-1821. Relacion del Ultimo Viage al Estrecho de Magallanes. Madrid: Ibarra, 1788-1793. 2 volumes. 4to (235 x 178 mm). Portrait frontispiece, 5 folding maps, 5 folding letterpress tables. Contemporary quarter sheep and marbled boards. Rubbed, some chipping and bumping to spine and corners, worming through covers and into margins of text block in volume 1, with paper repairs to worming, last gathering of volume 1 (Y) slightly loose, scattered foxing and browning. FIRST EDITION, with the appendix issued in 1793 bound separately in a complimentary style. A relation of Antonio de Córdoba's expedition to the Strait of Magellan to determine if the strait was a viable trade route to Asia and the Pacific.
