A collection of Bow porcelain, circa 1750-75 Comprising an early Bow plate painted in blue with an unfurled scroll depicting a flowers issuing from holed rockwork, Chinese emblems below the flowerhead and geometric panelled border, 22.6cm diam, three lobed oval dishes with basket-moulded borders, painted with European flowers and insects, 17.3 - 18.1cm wide, a leaf dish with the handle formed by the stalk, painted with fruiting vine and insects, 24.5cm wide, pseudo Chinese mark, an octagonal plate with circular and fan-shaped panels painted with Chinese landscapes and flowers, reserved on a powder blue ground, 22.3cm wide, pseudo Chinese mark (6) Footnotes: Provenance Elizabeth Adams Collection The first-mentioned plate is after a Chinese prototype. The design was also adopted on English and Irish delftware, where it is referred to as the 'Broken Scroll' pattern. Another example of the basket-moulded lobed dishes is illustrated and discussed by Elizabeth Adams and David Redstone in Bow Porcelain (1981), p.168 and pl.95. The authors describe the painting style as reminiscent of some underglaze blue decoration produced by Bonnin and Morris in Philadelphia.
