A Chamberlain Worcester armorial plate from the Yeo Service, circa 1815-19 Painted with the crest and motto for Sir James Lucas Yeo, incorporating the Badge of the Order of the Bath, the borders richly decorated in Japan colours and gold with pattern number 298, circular panels of stylised flowers reserved on wide blue borders gilded in classical style, 22.3cm diam, printed 'Chamberlains Regent China' mark Footnotes: The well-documented Yeo service is notable for the quality of its armorial painting. Following in the footsteps of Admiral Horatio Nelson a decade before, Commodore Sir James Yeo ordered a breakfast, tea and dessert service from the Chamberlain factory during a brief moment of peace in 1815. Like his famous predecessor Yeo selected an existing stock border design, this time choosing the ornate pattern 298. The additional cost the armorial decoration on every piece was greater than the cost of the rest of the painting and gilding combined. King George III elevated Commander Yeo to the Order of the Bath and granted him his own coat of arms in 1810 for his role in capturing Cayenne. The Portuguese decreed Yeo a member of the Order of Aviz, making him the first Protestant to hold this honour. The conquest of French Guiana was a crucial loss for France, removing its last colonial foothold in South America.
