A STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC CALENDAR BRACELET WATCH Model: Single Red Submariner Reference: 1680 Date: c. 1972 Movement: 26-jewel automatic, No. D010162 Dial: Black Case: Tonneau form, screw down back, No. 2955760 Strap/Bracelet: Stainless steel Oyster link Buckle/Clasp: Stainless steel folding clasp Signed: Case, dial, movement and clasp Size: 39mm Accompaniments: Maker's service pouch Footnotes: The Rolex Submariner, Reference 1680, was introduced in 1967 and has had many iterations of the famous 'Red Submariner' dial. The Mark 4 dial was one of the earliest versions of the 'Feet First' variety, and among the three versions, the Mark 4 (the present lot) was produced for approximately 2 years from 1971 to 1972. Its dial configuration has red lettering 'SUBMARINER' printed over a white base layer, 'open sixes' for the depth rating, and most distinguishably the 'Ft' with sharp edges at an angle, unlike the Mark 5 and 6 where the text was rounded. The present example is offered in nicely preserved condition with attractive patina to the lume.
