A STAINLESS STEEL MANUAL WIND CHRONOGRAPH BRACELET WATCH Model: Daytona 'Big Red' Reference: 6263 Date: c. 1981 Movement: 17-jewel manual wind Dial: Black Case: Tonneau form, screw down case back, No. 6608090 Strap/Bracelet: Stainless steel Oyster link Buckle/Clasp: Stainless steel folding clasp Signed: Case, dial, movement and clasp Size: 37mm Accompaniments: Maker's outer packaging, box, certificate (undated), service letters and lapel pin Footnotes: The Rolex Daytona is one of the most iconic and sought-after vintage timepieces. In 1969, Rolex introduced two new references, 6263 and 6265, to replace the earlier 6240 Oyster Cosmograph. Both models shared several characteristics, but the primary difference was the bezel design: the 6263 featured a black acrylic bezel with a tachymeter scale, while the 6265 came with a smooth, engraved metal bezel. Powering these models was the Valjoux caliber 727, a manual-wind movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, which remained in use until the 1988 release of the Zenith-based 4030 movement. The present example is fitted the rare 'Big Red' dial, a beloved feature among collectors. Offered by its original owner and preserved in excellent condition, this vintage Daytona comes with the complete set and would make an outstanding addition to any collection of Rolex enthusiasts.
