A RARE SILVERED TRIPLE CASE KEYWIND SUN AND MOON WATCH Date: c. 1780 Movement: Gilt full plate movement, verge escapement, fusée and chain, decoratively pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, flat three-arm balance, flared pillars Dial: Silvered champlevé, aperture for hour with sun and moon hands Case: Round, snap on case back, No. 20671 Signed: Dial and movement Size: 55mm (outer case) Accompaniments: None Footnotes: At the turn of the 19th century, watchmakers, particularly in England, were pushing design motifs and experimenting with interesting ways to tell the time, as technology, while slowly advancing, had not gone far beyond two hands to tell the time.
