A RARE ENGRAVED NEW HAVEN ARMS COMPANY NO. 1 VOLCANIC LEVER ACTION PISTOL MODIFIED AS A PARLOR PISTOL, c. 1858. Serial number 1815, .31 caliber octagonal barrel marked on the top 'NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14. 18[54],' the barrel with an insert that severely restricts the bore diameter along with a modified firing pin, standard tubular magazine below the barrel, post front sight, notch rear sight; the silvered brass frame with engraved foliate scroll decoration, checkered hammer, smooth varnished walnut grips each stamped '1815' on the inside surface. Barrel lg. 3 1/2, overall lg. 9 in. Condition: Barrel retains approx. 75% old bluing, magazine tube has the brass follower and the spring does not extend to its fullest length; frame retains approx. 90% silvering, the cartridge elevating block is missing; hammer retains significant case coloring, lever retains significant bluing; grips have minor wear and light dings and dents; action functions but lever does not push the hammer all the way to full-cock.
