A CONFEDERATE NAVAL CUTLASS ASSOCIATED WITH THE C.S.S. FLORIDA, likely produced in New Orleans, 1861. Roughly case hilt with large counter-guard and down turned quillon, two branches connecting to a flat knuckle bow and attaching to the top of the carved oak grip by two iron tacks, the grip with the remnants of an old label reading 'W. Doug[---] [--] [--] in New O[---]/used by Southerners in late [--]'; crudely forged machete-type single-edge blade. Blade lg. 25, overall lg. 30 1/2 in.
