A RARE ENGRAVED VOLCANIC REPEATING ARMS COMPANY LEVER ACTION PISTOL, c. 1855. Serial number 1407, .38 caliber octagonal barrel marked on the top 'THE VOLCANIC/REPEATING ARMS CO./PATENT NEW HAVEN CONN. FEB. 14. 1854' with tubular magazine below, post front sight, notch rear sight; the brass frame with engraved foliate scroll decoration, checkered hammer, lever marked '407,' smooth varnished walnut grips. Barrel lg. 8, overall lg. 14 1/2 in. Condition: Good overall condition, barrel is mostly toned to plum with traces of original bluing, area with the markings has been cleaned; frame is mostly toned to deep yellow but has intact silvering on the lower portions of the sides; hammer retains case coloring, lever toned to plum/brown; grips have minor wear and light dings and dents; action functions properly.
