A CASED AND ENGRAVED MASSACHUSETTS ARMS COMPANY MAYNARD PRIMED BELT REVOLVER, c. 1851-57. Serial number 85, 6 in., .31 caliber, round barrel, the top of cylinder strap marked 'MASS ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS'; six-shot cylinder; foliate scroll engraved steel frame, the primer tape door engraved with an eagle within a shield and 'MAYNARD'S PATENT/SEP. 22. 1845,' brass trigger guard, walnut grip; housed in a mahogany case opening to a compartmented green baize line interior with a spare cylinder, brass loading rod, iron shot/bullet mold, embossed tin powder flask, a later tin with a roll of Maynard tape primer caps. Overall lg. 11 3/4 in. Condition: Steel toned to gray and with scattered pitting, trace of silvering on the brass back strap, grip has wear and stains, action functions properly; case interior is faded, accessories are generally good.
