A RARE FRENCH LE CUIRASSIER DOUBLE ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER, likely by Jean Baptiste Eyraud, St. Etienne, mid-19th century. 7 in. .43 caliber round, blued barrel with gold scroll decoration and inscription 'LE CUIRASSIER' mounted on a pivot in front of a blued and gilt decorated cylinder with six chambers; steel frame with engraved foliate scrolls and medallions featuring a stag and grouse, double-action ring trigger; fluted walnut stock with steel butt cap and backstrap engraved 'Eyraud Brevete a St. Etienne.' Overall lg. 13 1/2 in. Condition: Revolver is in good overall condition, barrel bluing is strong but showing thinning and at the muzzle; cylinder bluing is strong but has light oxidation toning around the nipples (two nipples are chipped); steel frame elements are toned to gray; grip has minor wear and blemishes; actions functions but is quite stiff.
