A pair of George IV silver salvers John Mewburn, London 1823 Shaped-circular, the shaped raised border with acanthus scroll rim, the centre chased with a band of diaper-work scroll cartouches, foliage and fruiting vines around an engraved armorial cartouche, crested above, on four scroll bracket feet, the reverse of one with later presentation inscription 'Presented to Mr. F. W. (Freddie) Baker, by the Members of the British Film Producers Association as a mark of their affection and of their appreciation for 52 years of devoted service to the British Film Industry', diameter 51cm, weight 206oz. (2) Footnotes: Francis William Baker was a member of the kinematography renters society. He was born 25th November 1877 at Hollesley, Suffolk. Entering the film industry in 1897. This is the armorial for the ANTROBUS family who from 1706 were of Antrobus Hall, Cheshire. The assay date (1823) suggest that the item was created for Gibbs Crawfurd ANTROBUS (1793-1861), who later in 1827 married his first wife Jane TROTTER (1805-1829). Possibly this was originally a marriage item. Gibbs Crawfurd ANTROBUS was the son of John ANTROBUS (1761-1794) who was in early life of Congleton, Cheshire by Anna CRAWFURD (1768-1793). Jane TROTTER was the daughter Coutts TROTTER (1767-1837) of Dyrham Park, Herfordshire by Margaret GORDON. The couple had only one child, a son: John Coutts ANTROBUS (1829-1916) whose own son was Jocelyn James ANTROBUS (1876-1953).
