A George IV silver kettle on stand Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard, London 1827 Of lobed melon form, engraved armorial to one side with twin crests above and motto 'PROBITATEM QUAM DIVITIUS' below, fluted spout, the fixed upright handle with scroll and leaf junctions, with ivory insulators, on a circular stand centred with a fixed burner, of compressed lobed form between supports with shell and acanthus scrolls, the lift-off cover of lobed dome form, surmounted with a large flower finial on a five leaf calyx, height 35cm, weight 94.5oz. Footnotes: This is the complete armorial of Richard Clayton BROWN-CLAYTON (1807-1886) of Adlington Hall, Chorley Lancashire and co. Wexford, Ireland and his wife Catherine Jane DOBSON (1810-1889). In 1830 they were married at Marylebone, Middlesex. Richard Clayton BROWN-CLAYTON was the son and heir of Lt. Gen. Robert BROWNE (1770-1845) of Carlow, Ireland and Henrietta CLAYTON (1782-1858) daughter of Sir Richard CLAYTON 1st baronet, who was born at Standish, Cheshire. In 1829 Lt. Gen. Robert BROWNE changed his family name by license to BROWNE-CLAYTON. Catherine Jane DOBSON was the daughter of Revd. J DOBSON. The item within this lot containing ivory has been registered in accordance with the Ivory Act (Section 10).
