Footnotes: Provenance The Artist, by whom gifted to Catherine Giles, by whom bequeathed to Rachel Levy With Jean-Pierre Lehmann, from whom acquired by the present owner Quentin Stevenson Exhibited London, New Burlington Galleries, The London Group, Thirty-Third Exhibition, 11-29 November 1935, (as Composition) London, The Archer Gallery, Jessica Dismorr and her Circle, 2-29 February 1972, cat.no.27 The Basket of Fruit was owned by fellow artist Catherine Giles, a lifelong friend of Dismorr after the two met at Max Bohm's art school in Étaples, down the coast from Calais. The work was hung in pride of place above Giles' mantlepiece, where the present owner first saw it and discussed it with Giles as a child. Between the two owners, the work was in the collection of Rachel Levy, a scholar of antiquity and a friend of both Giles and Dismorr.
