The studio had been built specially for the artist on the specific instructions of the local squire Col. C.H. Paynter on the cliff sides to the West of Lamorna Cove, Cornwall, halfway between the sea at the bottom and the cliff tops, a place one had to clamber to, just off the cliff path. A few years after having first arrived in Cornwall, the artist hired some models from London, and this model is believed to have been one of them.
