PEARY'S MANUSCRIPT MAP OF PEARYLAND SIGNED BY THEODORE ROOSEVELT AND OTHERS. PEARY, ROBERT E. 1856-1920; PETER T. SHARP JR (ENGROSSED BY). Manuscript Map of Pearyland, signed by Theodore Roosevelt and 18 other members of the Peary Arctic Club, who provided the financial backing for his expedition, each at the feature named for them, beneath an engrossed letter of commendation from the Club, 435 x 280 mm, New York, October 17, 1902, small stain lower right corner, framed. Provenance: Admiral Robert E. Peary; by descent, sold James D. Julia, Estate of Robert E. Peary, Jr., Important Maine Summer Auction, August 25-26, 1994, lot 525). ROBERT PEARY'S MANUSCRIPT MAP OF PEARY LAND, PRESENTED TO HIM BY THEODORE ROOSEVELT AND THE MEMBERS OF THE PEARY ARCTIC CLUB, upon his return and reports from his 1898-1902 explorations in Greenland, and SIGNED BY ROOSEVELT AND 17 MEMBERS OF THE CLUB AT THE FEATURE PEARY HAD NAMED FOR EACH. The Peary Arctic Club was formed in 1897 by the wealthy supporters of Peary in order to raise money for his expeditions and was able to fund the purchase of the S.S. Roosevelt which would carry him to his important North Pole expedition of 1908-1909. Signers include A.A. Raven ('Raven Glacier'), E.C. Benedict ('Benedict Fjord'), Henry W. Cannon ('Cape Cannon'), H. Hayden Sands ('Sands Fjord'), Morris K. Jesup ('Cape Morris Jesup'), James M. Constable ('Constable Bay'), James J. Hill ('Cape James Hill'), E. W. Bliss ('Bliss Bay'), H.L. Bridgman ('Cape Bridgman'), Frederick E. Hyde ('Frederick E. Hyde Fjord'), John M. Flagler ('Cape John Flagler'), E.G. Wyckoff ('Wyckoff Island'), Clarence F. Wyckoff ('Cape Clarence Wyckoff'), Grant B. Schley ('G.B. Schley Fjord'), Henry Parish ('Cape Henry Parish'), H.H. Benedict (signed twice) ('H. H. Benedict Range'), E.B.
