BRASS CARRIAGE TIMEPIECE BELONGING TO ADMIRAL PEARY. PEARY, ROBERT E. 1856-1920. A brass carriage timepiece belonging to Admiral Robert E. Peary, French, second-half of the 19th-century, 4 1/2 x 3 x 2 1/2 inches (110 x 80 x 65 mm), cylinder platform escapement with plain monometallic balance, rear panel engraved 'S' and 'F,' and top engraved 'S F' and below 'N A.' In original suede-lined leather case, with hinged lid and pull-out face. Provenance: Admiral Robert E. Peary; by descent, sold James D. Julia, Estate of Robert E. Peary, Jr., Important Maine Summer Auction, August 25-26, 1994, lot 519. Lot to be sold without reserve.
