Byrd, including in typescript form Byrd's 'My Tribute for Floyd Bennett' and his 'This Hero Business' as introduction, additional introduction signed by William M. Davidson, 4to (280 x 210 mm), contemporary pebbled leather binding, lettered in gilt, 'Air Travel / Present Past and Future - James Elliott Mooney' and at lower corner 'Commander Richard E. Byrd/ Antarctic Expedition 1928.' Provenance: Richard Evelyn Byrd, Jr (1888-1957); by descent; sold to the present owner. Apparently, an early draft of Mooney's Air Travel published in slightly altered form by Scribners in 1930. Inscribed by Mooney: 'To Commander Richard E. Byrd, / 'The Adventurer Among Adventurers'/ With Wishes, for all success, / of the author, [SIGNED] / September 18, 1928.' Mooney assisted Byrd on his expeditions, and served as Deputy United States Antarctic Projects Officer in the 1950s-60s. Lot to be sold without reserve.
