Folio (275 x 198 mm). 88 leaves, Gothic type, double column, 43 lines and headline. Blue five-line opening initial, numerous red four-intials and paragraph marks. Modern calf antique, red morocco lettering piece, gilt, early knotted vellum foredge tabs. Custom cloth folding case. Provenance: Kenneth Rappaport (bookplate); Hon. Stanley C. Wisniewski (pencil inscription). EARLY STRASSBURG EDITION OF COLUMNA'S HISTORY OF THE TROJAN WAR, based on two descriptions in manuscripts written by contemporary eyewitnesses, De excidio Trojae historia by Dares Phrygius and Ephemeridos belli Trojani by Dictus Cretensis. Columna, a judge and a poet, filled this framework with love stories, fighting, and scholarly digressions.
