While some lamented the loss of Bruno Sacco's understated, sharp-edged styling, others embraced this bold new look for Mercedes. Despite some early teething problems, the W210 was ultimately a resounding sales success, and was a worthy bearer of the E-Class torch. With AMG and Mercedes-Benz cementing their partnership in the early 1990s, the opportunity to offer new options across the line grew dramatically. AMG offered a fully reworked W210 with a 5-liter engine known as the E50 (and later the E55 in the USA), but many of the tuning parts could be fitted to 'cooking' versions as well. THE CAR OFFERED The car offered here from the Barry Taylor Estate is a rare, European market E420 Wagon, equipped from new with the 4.2-liter version of the venerable M119 DOHC V8 engine. Aside from its rarity as a V8 powered estate, this car was highly optioned with a number of special-order features from the AMG catalogue. Build records show it was ordered via the Coblenz Branch in Germany, with additional text indicating it was delivered to AMG with Code 772 (AMG Styling Package) and fitted with a host of options. The option sheet spans two pages to include such niceties as a Designo interior, Xenon lamps with washers, AMG sport suspension, decorative stitching, additional, leather covered options, Alcantara headlining and sun visors, and much more. It is believed that Barry Taylor used this unique E420 as his 'shop car' after retiring his W123 E500 estate. It is presented in fair condition overall and would serve as an excellent basis for a light refurbishment. Please note that this car has been in long-term storage, has not been started while in Bonhams' care, and will require recommissioning. We strongly encourage contactless payment of invoices prior to collection. Lots will not be released to buyers until full and final payment is received by Bonhams. Payment made by personal or business check may result in property not being released until purchase funds clear our bank. Buyers Premium and Charges
The final bid (hammer) price of each lot will be
subject to a buyer's premium.
For MOTORCAR property the premium is 15% of the final bid price.
For MOTORCYCLE property the premium is 15% on the first $100,000 of the bid price and 10% on any amount of the bid price exceeding $100,000.
For AUTOMOBILIA or non motor vehicle property, the premium is 28% of the first $50,000 of the bid price, plus 27% of the amount of the bid price above $50,000 up to and including $1,000,000, plus 21% of the amount of the bid price above $1,000,000 up to and including $6,000,000, plus 14.5% of the amount of the bid price above $6,000,000.
