New England Full Wagon Wheel Hilt Sword,

New England Full Wagon Wheel Hilt Sword, third quarter of the 18th century. Brass hilt with large openwork 'spokes' on the counter-guard and openwork intertwined semi-circles on the knuckle bow, joining an slightly ovoid brass pommel and smooth cherry grip, the underside of the quillon with punched '20'; slightly curved blade without false edge or fuller. Blade lg. 29 5/8 in., overall lg. 35 1/2 in. Condition: Hilt toned to deep yellow/brown, one spoke broken and there is a break in the radius of the knuckle bow, hilt has slight movement on the blade tang; blade has a period break and repair at the center, repair takes the form of overlapping brazed joint reinforced with an inset steel butterfly and two rivets, blade toned to mottle gray with overall spots of oxidation.
