New England Quasi-Wagon Wheel Hilt Sword, third quarter of the 18th century. Brass hilt, the counter-guard with blunt quillon and six short spokes, pierced tapering knuckle bow connecting to an ovoid pommel, spiral carved walnut grip with twisted brass wire wrapping; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and single narrow fuller. Blade lg. 30 1/2, overall lg. 37 1/8 in. Condition: Brass toned to deep yellow/brown, one spoke is cracked, pommel has a small hole, grip has hairline shrinkage cracks, hilt has considerable movement on the blade tang; blade toned to mottled gray/brown has considerable surface oxidation and numerous nicks on the blade edge.
