American Officer's Saber. c. 1780. Brass hilt, the counter-guard with down turned quillon and two slots, two branches connecting to a tapering knuckle bow and spherical pommel, hard wood grip with twisted brass wire inlay wrapping; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and single narrow fuller. Blade lg. 27, overall lg. 32 5/8 in. Condition: Hilt is toned to deep yellow/brown and has scattered dings and dents, hilt is tight on the blade tang; blade is toned to overall gray/brown with minor pitting near the tip and scattered shallow nicks on the blade edge.
