American Horseman's Saber, third quarter of the 18th century. Brass semi-basket hilt with ovoid counter-guard and three sweeping 'S' branches, narrow knuckle bow connecting to a round pommel integrally cast with the smooth brass grip; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and single narrow fuller, old sheet copper repair to the blade just below the hilt. Blade lg. 32, overall lg. 38 1/4 in. Condition: Hilt is toned to deep yellow/brown, knuckle bow is separated just above the counter-guard; blade toned to deep brown and with scattered light pitting, sheet copper wrapping just below the hilt secures an old, failed restoration - blade is separated within the sheet copper wrapping.
