Lion's Pommel Officer's Hanger, possibly New Hampshire, third quarter of the 18th century. The brass hilt with openwork counter-guard, double chain connecting to a crude lion's head pommel, with spiral carved hard wood grip; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and single narrow fuller, red wool cloth washer at the hilt; black leather scabbard with tooled decoration, sheet brass top and throat. Blade lg. 26 1/4, overall lg. 31 5/8 in. Condition: Brass toned to dark yellow, grip has minor hairlines and small chips at the base, hilt has a little movement on the blade tang; blade has scattered spots of gray toning and several shallow nick on the edge; scabbard is in good overall condition with some alligatoring and bends.
