Windus Pattern Musket by John Fox Twigg, London, 1770s. 38 3/4 in., .77 caliber barrel with ring decoration at the breech, London Company of Gunmakers' proof marks, crown over 'IT' barrel maker's mark, the top marked with crown over '4' and 'LONDON'; convex lock plate with pointed tail marked 'TWIGG' and with crown over 'W' below the pan; walnut stock, the right side of the butt with ducal crown over 'D' mark and crown over 'S,' area behind side plate marked 'E,' the rammer channel with assembly number 'J.HEACOCK' and 'P*P'; brass furniture including trigger guard with stylized acorn finial, butt plate with stepped tang, convex 'S' side plate, nose cap and two rammer and one entry pipe; steel rammer with button head and threaded end; sling swivels. Overall lg. 54 3/4 in. Condition: Barrel and lock are mostly bright with scattered gray toning and associated light pitting, lock has a repaired mainspring; stock has a repaired crack on the left side through the side plate area and a gouge just forward of the side plate, scattered dings and dents; brass toned to yellow; lock functions properly.
